Cruising Qisma FAQs
We get many different FAQs on a daily basis. Here are just a few questions, we hope to update this page with more in the future!
What size is Qisma?
Qisma is 60ft in length and 6.1ft wide
When did you buy Qisma?
We bought her in early August 2021, we have now lived on Qisma for over 2 years!
How do you heat the boat during Winter?
We have a wood-fired stove on board which we use to heat with smokeless coal ovals and reclaimed wood during the Winter. We also have a central heating system powered by our diesel engine which heats our radiators around the boat and heats our water.
Is it not cold in the Winter?
Certainly not! With our wood-fired stove and central heating system, we are nice and toasty in the Winter. We also have electric heaters on board which we can use when we are plugged into shore power.
Where are you moored?
We are currently moored on the Lough Erne, Northern Ireland.
Is this your permanent home?
Yes, we permanently live on Qisma as our full-time home and have done now for over 2 years.
How do you get post?
We rely on friends and family to get any post. We also have a small postbox that we share with another boat neighbour and use for small parcels and letters.
How do you get water?
Our private mooring and many public moorings will have water taps which we can use freely.
How big is your water taken and how often do you have to fill it?
Our water tank is 100 gallons and we tend to fill it every 4-5 days. This can vary based on usage like how often we take showers (more often in the summer to cool down) and how often we use the washing machine on board for laundry.
How do you do your laundry on Qisma?
We have a washing machine on board so we can do our own laundry. During the summer months, we tend to air out the laundry outside. Unfortunately, with the bad weather during the winter months, we air out our laundry beside the stove inside.
